Being a Major Supporter or Author gives you access to advertise for free on this website. There are several ways of doing this, so the below outlines the different types of advertisements you can do and how to create them. These features become available to you by becoming a major supporter and helping spread ‘The Moment of Peace’ to others.
Creating Your Posts, Ads, Listings
Ads, Listings and Posts are essentially just different types of “posts”. It is how these posts are categorised that control where they appear on the site and thus how the image is rendered and resized dynamically.
So for terminology sake, we call a:
- Post – an article on the website, the same as you would a blog post.
- Advertisements - a image, either in the column or banner, which is displayed as an advertisement.  These can link through a post once someone clicks on the image.
- Listing – a place where you are displayed along with other Major Supporters. Â These can link through a post (maybe a company profile) once someone clicks on the listing. Â For example, this is how we ‘list’ you on our Major Supporters page. Â We also use the same functionality to display a listing of supporters after someone submits any web form on the site.
While you can create more than one ad, it is requested that you limit ads to one per major supporter. (Anyone abusing this will have their additional ads removed). This ensures all major supporters get equal air time. You can always update and change your ad when you feel like it, even daily or weekly if you want.
You can read more here for a detailed explanation of how to create a post and turn it into an advertisement, listing or featured post.
Advertising types
The below outlines the optimum size of these advertising types:
- Regular Post – 222px x 160px preferred (OR 756px x 567px) – this is a regular post that is displayed within the content of the site that others can see by finding your profile and reading. You can also do your own promoting of this article.
- Featured Post – 756px x 567px – your post will be featured on the site’s homepage. It will appear the same as the slideshow you see at the top of the website when you go to the Home page. The order is randomised. This image size should also fit nicely for a regular post and will only crop off a little bit from the top and bottom.
- Major Supporter and Author Listing (image 222px x 160px) – this is your listing on the Supporters page. For fairness, the listings on this page are randomised so everyone gets an equal opportunity of appearing at the top.
- Standard Column Advertisement – 180px x 180px – this is an advertisement in the left or right column of this website. The order is randomised. The image can be whatever dimensions your like, for example it can be 180px x 100px for landscape or 100px x 180px for portrait if that will work well for a book cover or non-square advertisement. The main point to note is that it will resize based on the longer image edge to fit within the column advertisement space.
- Banner Advertisement – currently not available – 1000px x 150px – this is a banner advertisement across the top, middle or bottom of the page. The order is randomised.

Best Image Size
The best image size for each advertising type is shown above. When you create any of the above, you set this image as the “Featured image”. This website will generate the thumbnail for the listing, column or post based on this “Featured Image”, and dynamically fit it in the space where it appears. Â So setting at the recommended size above will ensure it fits perfectly. Considering this dynamic resizing, it is therefore possible to create your image so it appears bigger in the post but still resizes down perfectly. To ensure this happens you have to keep the image at the same proportions. For example, a 222px x 160px image will resize down exactly the same as something twice as big 444px x 320px.
Being Clever – Doing More with Less
If you want full control over content you can create and customise all the above different advertising types. This allows you to create each one with unique content and unique images. Being clever however you can also save yourself some work by creating one article and then setting it to be both a column advertisement and Major Supporter listing. If you use a 222px x 160px image, it will dynamically fit itself. Other combinations are possible, and in theory there is nothing stopping you from creating a single post that can be used for all advertising types, you just have to be willing to have the image cropped slightly when it is dynamically resized.
