Taking part in the “The Moment of Peace” is as easy as “1, 2, 3″ and participating only requires that we do something we can all do naturally – be silent, be mindful, and be still.
Anyone can take part, regardless of religious or spiritual backgrounds, or if you have no affiliation at all. You only have to utilise natural qualities inherent within your human experience, by following these 3 easy steps. These steps are the key to finding peace within ourselves and with each other. It is very simple and natural to everybody, everywhere – you can do it!
Through practising mindful silence, meditation and prayer regularly, we not only start to feel better about ourselves but we also start to notice our problems bother us less, and our lives become inherently more joyful and happy. We also find we get along much better with others.
No matter our spiritual faith,
nationality, ethnicity, family, upbringing,
background, beliefs or thoughts -
in silence we are all united.
So why not take an hour, stop, put down your worries, just be and enjoy the simplicity of life in this moment?
To take part in “The Moment of Peace” in your country, all you have to do is:
Step 1 – Be Mindful
Be mindful just means to be aware. This can mean being present in the moment as it is occurring, or being present with God, or life, or spirit, or the earth. Just watch life as it transpires, watch the trees, listen to the sound of the birds, the wind, even notice the thoughts and feelings within yourself or the simple rising and falling of your breath. Whatever life is in that moment is exactly as it should be, so just be with it.
Step 2 – Be Silent
Be silent for the hour. Just stop and allow the mind and inner chatter to come to rest just a little. This can mean being silent in the moment as it is occurring, or being silent with God, or life, or spirit, or the earth. This is the start of a new conversation, an unspoken conversation, with these things in our lives. Just experience it in this silence, listen and watch. Try to resist engaging with others in conversation, watching the TV, using the PC or having the radio on. You can however choose to read a book or simply sit and watch the world and life for a while.
Step 3 – Be Still
This can mean being still in the moment as it is occurring, or being still with God, or life, or spirit, or the earth. Find a nice space to spend an hour just sitting and experiencing the world and the beauty of being alive. It could be your lounge room, on the veranda or porch of your house, in a park, in the forest, or by the ocean. Just mindfully experience the world for an hour.
Note: being still for a whole hour can be challenging if you aren’t use to it. If you need to, get up at the 30 minute mark, take a short 5 minute slow walk, and then return to being still for the remainder of the hour.
Use Commonsense
Obviously, if a situation arises that requires you to act and you need to communicate, then please do what you must. This too is an act of kindness that serves a good purpose so please take action, speak if required to help another person or yourself. We want everybody to be safe, well and able to get help from the resources they need.
Sharing With Children
Our children are our future and the real place where change will begin. To allow them to embrace this idea I again ask that we do not enforce this upon them. They may be simply too young. Ask them if they want to participate, and allow them to make their own decision. If they say no, then that is fine. Again, by allowing them to see your involvement through leading by example, maybe next year or sometime in the future, they’ll have an interest to get involved too.
Also be mindful that children will not sit still for an hour, so allow them to participate for as long as they are able to. It may just be 5-10 minutes, but it is a start. If they get up to leave then allow them to, and continue on your own. Obviously children make noise, it is in their nature to do so, so don’t be upset if they can’t be silent, just continue to lead by example and accept the noise. In time, they’ll learn through watching you and will eventually want to get involved.
Get Together with Family, Friends and Foe
Why not get together with your friends, family and neighbours and meditate, pray or simply share a moment of peace in your lounge room or local community hall?
Why not extend an invitation to a someone who challenges you or you don’t get along with to come and do “The Moment of Peace” with you? It all makes a difference.
Create An Event
Think big, then think bigger! Why not organise an event in your town or city to host a “The Moment of Peace” gathering. Book out a hall, theatre, or football oval, and promote people to come and join in as a meeting of like minds with a common vision. The experience of a large group of people sitting in absolute silence is breath-taking, life changing and unforgettable. Be sure to add your group gathering or event location onto our map so people can find you.
